Policy Update-Wk of 8/10

posted on

In the Health Reform Update for the past week, 37 House Democrats back a PSI initiative to persuade the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to require Marketplace insurers accept third-party premium assistance from charitable organizations.

A Centers for Disease Control and Prevention survey finds that the nation’s uninsured rate has fallen below ten percent for the first time in history.  CMS reports that nearly 944,000 consumers have used a special enrollment period to sign-up for private plan coverage in the federally-facilitated Marketplace.  The Health and Human Services Inspector General becomes the latest federal auditor to document that CMS is still unable to verify that ACA subsidies are going to eligible recipients.

The North Carolina House and Senate pass their own Medicaid privatization plans but reject any form of Medicaid expansion.
