In the Health Reform Update for the past two weeks, Congress
pre-emptively rejects the President’s proposed budget plan that includes
provisions to cut Medicare spending and prices for prescription drugs.
Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services announces that Medicare enrollees
have now received an average discount of nearly $1,950 due to the Affordable
Care Act (ACA). The agency also creates
a new special enrollment period for consumers barred from 2016 Marketplace
coverage because they failed to reconcile ACA premium assistance they received
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention finds that only eight states are
mostly responsible for the 37 percent post-ACA drop in the nation’s uninsured
rate, led by Kentucky. New Hampshire
lawmakers clear the way for two-year re-authorization of that state’s Medicaid
expansion alternative. However, Medicaid
expansion efforts suffer another setback in the Kansas House and Senate.
Humana enters into a consent order preventing further use of discriminatory
cost-sharing for HIV/AIDS patients in Florida.
