Health Reform Update - April 14th

            In the Health Reform Update for the past week, President Obama announces that more than eight million consumers selected private coverage during the inaugural open enrollment period in the health insurance Marketplaces created by the Affordable Care Act (ACA).  Nearly half signed-up during the final six weeks.   

            The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) downgrades it cost estimate for the ACA by more than $100 billion after Marketplace premiums and subsidies were less than anticipated.  The non-partisan scorekeeper also predicts modest Medicare spending growth and lower deficits despite a recent uptick in health care utilization after a post-recession lull.   Several studies confirm that spending for specialty tier drugs continues to soar even as overall drug spending declines.
