Policy Update - Week of Sept 29

posted on

In the Health Reform Update for this week, partisan divisions continue to hold in the legal battle over whether Affordable Care Act (ACA) subsidies can be offered to federal Marketplace consumers.

Surveys of insurance departments show that at least 50,000 individual plans that fail to comply with the ACA may be canceled in the weeks leading up to the midterm elections.  Meanwhile, the new federal website detailing manufacturer payments to physicians and providers suffers many of the same technical problems that plagued the Marketplace rollout last fall.

Minnesota announced that its Marketplace will have the nation’s lowest average premiums for the second consecutive year.  New entrants to the Mississippi Marketplace will ensure that consumers in every county will have a choice of insurance carriers for 2015.  Covered California consumers are likely to see the same limited provider networks despite new standards and lawsuits.
