Policy Update-Week of 3/23

posted on

In the Health Reform Update for the past week, the President appears likely to sign a permanent repeal of the Medicare physician payment formula should the bipartisan compromise from the House also clear the Senate.  However, he pledged to veto budget plans passed by the House and Senate that include dramatic cuts to health spending and a full repeal of the Affordable Care Act (ACA).

Congress urges greater oversight and transparency over the 340B drug discount program in response to studies claiming that participating providers are increasingly using the discounts to reap “windfall profits”.

A bipartisan group of House members introduces their third bill to prohibit the use of specialty tier coinsurance.  Aetna responds to a discrimination complaint by agreeing to limit the use of specialty tier coinsurance for most HIV drugs covered in all of its Marketplace plans, at least temporarily.  Ohio becomes the latest state to consider legislation limiting specialty tier coinsurance and discrimination.
