James Romano
James Romano

Director of Government Relations and Advocacy

James Romano is currently the Director of Government Relations and Advocacy at Patient Services Incorporated (PSI). He has served in this capacity since 2005. James began his career in patient advocacy at the age of 19. As a freshman in college, he lobbied for the passage of the Ricky Ray Hemophilia Relief Fund Act (Public Law 105-369) on behalf of the Hemophilia Community. James has five members of his family with hemophilia and is the fourth generation to advocate on behalf of the rare disease and plasma community.

For his career, James has worked to remove barriers to access to healthcare for patients with rare disease and chronic illnesses. James was a staff members to a Member of Congress as well as a lobbyist. Since starting at PSI, James has worked to advance the cause of access for patients with expensive rare conditions to the therapies and treatments. The department has expanded to build relationships with our donors and other patient advocacy groups. PSI is always looking to partner to expand access to other rare disease groups.

James earned a BA from Marymount University, an MPA from George Mason University, and his MBA at the University of Mary Washington.

Nathan Thomson
Nathan Thomson

Government Relations Associate

Nathan Thomson is currently the Government Relations Associate at Patient Services Inc. He began serving in this capacity in March of 2019. Nathan started his career in government relations during his time at Radford University. As an upperclassman he was a RU Ambassador and represented the school at the capitol in Richmond.

Nathan is a native Richmonder, having grown up in the West End and attended the Center for Leadership, Government, and Global Economics at Douglas Freeman. Following high school he majored in Communications and minored in History at Radford University in southwest Virginia. While attending college, Nathan fell in love with the outdoors and he completed three internships with the Forest Service and the Bureau of Land Management. These positions gave him an opportunity to travel to Idaho and Alaska.

After graduating from Radford, Nathan continued his educational journey at Appalachian State in Boone, North Carolina. It was there that he focused his passion for policy and service into a Masters Degree in Political Science. His coursework focused on statistics and data management, cost-benefit analysis, and political research.

At PSI Nathan helps to represent patients on both the state and federal level. He enjoys working with various patient advocacy groups to increase access to healthcare for individuals with rare diseases and chronic illnesses. When he is not at work he enjoys fly fishing, live music, and reading. His favorite team is the Washington Redskins.
