In the Health Reform Update for this week, the Trump Administration succeeds in postponing the appeal of a federal court ruling striking down the Affordable Care Act (ACA), due to the ongoing federal government shutdown. Democrats assume control of the House and immediately vote to defend against that lawsuit, as well as resurrect their long-sought reforms to lower prescription drug prices.

A federal court overturns the dramatic cut in Medicare Part B payments for discounted drugs sold to federal Section 340B safety net providers.

Democratic leaders in California, Colorado, Washington, and New York City propose new lower-cost public health insurance options that would be available to all residents. California and Maryland seek to become the fourth and fifth states (including the District of Columbia) with a state-alternative to the recently repealed individual mandate under the ACA. Governors in California and Washington seek state funding to expand the availability of ACA premium tax credits.
