In the Health Reform Update for this week, President Obama vetoes a bill that would repeal key provisions of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) but signs an omnibus spending package that allows two ACA taxes to be delayed for two years.

Sign-ups for federally-facilitated Marketplaces are more than two million consumers ahead last year’s pace as more than 70 percent of enrollees renewed coverage (despite more than half switching plans).  However, enrollment of a critical demographic—young adults—remains roughly the same.  A new study from all Marketplaces reveals far greater increases in average premiums than initial data revealed.

Louisiana’s new Democratic governor sets an ambitious July 1st date for Medicaid expansion while public support for Kentucky’s existing Medicaid expansion appears to force the new Republican governor to retreat from a campaign pledge to have it terminated.  The Obama Administration approves higher premiums under Michigan’s Medicaid expansion alternative while Arkansas’ Republican governor asks for permission to put even broader limits on that state’s popular expansion alternative.
