Each year, Patient Services receives thousands of emotional testimonials from patients and their families describing how PSI’s assistance has impacted their lives. While the stories come from patients from very different backgrounds, who are dealing with a wide range of chronic illnesses, many of them share a common narrative. We hope that you will take a few minutes to read some of our patients’ stories of hope below.

Your words have the power to restore hope and health to patients and caregivers in need! The PSI staff encourage you to share your personal story today to let others know that they aren’t alone.  You, along with the PSI staff and community, are here to encourage and lift others up in their time of need.  If you have a story of your own, please share it with us by completing this secure form.  Prior to submitting your story, click here to view the Patient Consent Form.

If you would like to support Patient Services and help us continue to serve the chronically ill, please consider giving a donation, bequest, or estate gift. Your contribution will go directly to help patients like the ones listed below afford the high costs associated with their chronic illness. For questions regarding giving to the Patient Services Foundation through wills, estates, and bequests please contact Mandy Herbert, Director of Community Outreach.

You guys are literally life-savers. As I am looking at heading into 2014 I am realizing just how grateful I am that you guys have been able to help me so much these two years. There is no telling what could have happened if I did not have help. Thank you guys so much for all that you do.

I was surprised to learn that I had Leukemia. The really bad news was the cost of the medicine. I want to thank everyone at PSI with all of their help with the co-pay. I didn’t know what I was going to do. I never would have made it without your help. Words cannot tell you all how wonderful you all are. I thank you all for your help. God Bless You All!

Patient Services has saved my life. I am deeply indebted to all involved. Without your help, we cannot pay for my deductible for my PNH. I wish that I could personally thank every individual or company who has donated to PSI and the PSI staff for all the hard work involved. Please accept this in lieu of hundreds of hugs….you have had a significant impact on my life and my health. Thank you. I am so grateful.

My mom was diagnosed with Chronic Myeloid Leukemia several years ago. Her doctor was the one that referred us to you. I can honestly say that without your assistance, my mom would not be alive. The medication that is keeping her white blood cells in check, costs over $3,000 for a 30-day supply. She has to take this medication every day the rest of her life. Her insurance picks up a little over $1,000. PSI picks up the rest. We do not have the means to pay for this wonder drug so you see how this would not have a happy ending if it wasn’t for you guys. If I could hug an organization, it would be done in an instant. Thank you so very much for your assistance throughout the years. God Bless all of you.

When I received the diagnosis that I had Alpha 1 I thought my life was over. When diagnosed with a chronic disease, the last thing one wants to worry about is how to pay from medicine, doctors, the lost time from work and overall mental and physical well-being and overall monthly costs to maintain a moderate household. Due to the environmental exposures at work I had to make steps to retire and apply for Social Security Disability. I went to my local office to start the application process for disability but was met with many obstacles. When I contacted PSI-ACCESS, Terry and his staff gave me hope and guidance through the process of applying for my Social Security Disability. Each step of the way, Terry explained the process and was able to answers questions I had. Without Terry and the staff, I would not have been approved for my disability in such a timely manner. Thanks again for all the assistance Terry and the staff gave me during this process and approval for my benefits. In my Alpha 1 support group meetings, I highly recommend PSI-ACCESS and staff.

What a blessing you are to me and my family! Without yours and God’s help, my husband would not be here for Christmas this year. The medication for his cancer is keeping him alive and he is in remission as long as he keeps taking it. Thanks from the bottom of my heart. There is no way we can get this medicine without your help. Thanks again for all your help and concern and for keeping my husband alive.

I wish to take this opportunity to thank all of you at PSI, as well as your sponsors and donors, for the years of help you gave me at the absolute lowest point in my life. I lost my husband and best friend in 2001. I was diagnosed with Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency in 2002. Then in 2006, I lost my job and I would have lost my health insurance if you would not have helped me. When I lost my job, I could no longer afford my home because of finances and physical ability. Since I had COBRA health insurance and was on disability, I was able to become involved in a transplant program. I don’t know if I would be dead without the lung transplant I received, but I do know that without it, my life at the moment would involve very little physical activity and I would not be able to participate in my volunteer work. After getting on Medicare after my transplant, you paid for my secondary insurance until I could afford it myself. Life may not be peaches and cream, but I am now a proud grandmother who never thought she would live to see any grandchildren and I will have another grandchild this fall, GOD willing. I go to the gym three times a week, volunteer at my church four hours a week, and occasionally help seniors pick their part D plans in the fall. If not for your generosity, I shudder to think of what my life would be like today. You will forever be my hero. I wish I had enough income to give to you and your mission, for I know you truly do good things for people who are in very dire straits. Thank you and GOD bless you!
